A fun exercise challenge this morning which reminds me of how much I really enjoy exercise. I've been sitting far too long and I'm trying my best to ease my way back into real physical activity. I started two days ago with the walk route I started several months ago around the perimeters of our pastures and hay fields. This path has lots of hills and inclines and so is nicely challenging especially for a desk potato like me but I didn't realize how much more challenging it was going to be this time. It wasn't difficult because I've not walked in several months thanks to an injured ankle. No, it was because two months gave the path a chance to grow up with waist high grass, briars with prickly thorns and weeds. It felt as if I was trying to walk through water or fight my way through a jungle and my pace change so often and slowed so dramatically at times that my GPS exercise monitor became confused. It also told me at the end of my one mile walk (all I did because it took so long and I was exhausted by the end of one mile), that I'd only burned about 60 calories for all of that effort....I don't think so! My leg muscles which are still aching today don't think so either!
